As per the just released Billboard Dance Club Play Chart Top 25 on Billboard.com for the week of 5 Sept 2015, UK producers Disclosure have 2 top-25 tracks...the number 1 track and the number 25 tracks!
Disclosure f-Gregory Porter "Holding On" goes #1 on the 5 Sept 2015 Club Play Chart
Disclosure f-Sam Smith "Omen" enters the top-25 at #25 on the 5 Sept 2015 Club Play Chart
To say that Disclosure are the "sound of the moment" among the Billboard DJs would be an understatement. Well deserved too, Disclosure are definitely amazing producers of funky deeper vocal house!
I love these recaps the people at Billboard put together. They stopped producing them in March and I had figured they were no longer going to be made, but just discovered that they are being made again. Thank you Billboard!
Topping the Billboard Club Play Chart for the week of 22 August 2015 are the remixes by British pop hearthrob Nathan Sykes, originally best known as a member of UK boyband The Wanted and one time boyfriend of pop-divette Ariana Grande. While the pop version of the track has done much better in the UK than here in the USA, the club mixes have propelled the track to the top of the Billboard Club Play Charts.
Jump Smokers Remix of "Kiss Me Quick"
To be honest though, the Jump Smokers mix doesn't do much for me, instead give me the remixes by Dave Aude or (preferably) DJ Escape & Tony Coluccio any time.
So I finally have caught up with new trance releases after a two month hiatus caused by moving to a new house and a hectic work schedule. Now I can start commenting on new music in a much timelier fashion. Each week I am going to try to provide a list of some of my favorite new releases, hopefully others find it useful.
Week 31 2015 Vocal Trancers
Above & Beyond f-Gemma Hayes - Counting Down The Days (Judah Remix)
She's done it again, another #1 Billboard Club Play chart single for Madonna, as "Bitch I'm Madonna," which sees her again collaborating with Nicki Minaj, hits the top on the 15 Aug 2015 Billboard Club Play Chart. Rosabel's mix is nothing short of FIERCE, and really is it any surprise this track with a chorus of "Bitch...I'm Madonna" would do nothing less than rule the club charts here in the USA??? Props to La M, she turns 57 this year and still looks amazing, putting plenty of younger singers to shame with the amazing choreography she uses in her videos.
Playing catch up on new music as my partner and I moved houses after living in the same place for 17 years (omg never moving again!). Anyways this track from Markus Schulz from late May 2015 is a gorgeous instrumental that samples the synth hook from late-90s trance classic "Sweet Release" by Trouser Enthusiasts. LOVE THIS!!!
Sitting atop the Billboard Club Play chart for 8 August 2015 are the club mixes for the big pop-country hit from Andy Grammer "Honey I'm Good." Mike Cruz really did a fun remix that captures the light spirit of the track perfectly. Who says country can't be remixed for the clubs! Actually this isn't the first country track to be remixed for bigroom club play, as many country divas have had official or bootleg mixes of their tracks produced, from Dolly Parton to Faith Hill and beyond. But male country vocalists getting the remix treatment is much rarer. Great summertime club track!
This is currently my favorite circuit house track. Legendary remixer and producer extraordinaire Barry Harris (who many may remember as one half of late-90s, early 2000s remix gods Thunderpuss) blows up the dancefloor with this gritty, more than a little naughty track that sounds like what you'd say to someone you are hitting on in a club (at the end the vocalist wants to know "What Makes You Hard...What Makes You Cum?") The remix of choice for me comes from San Diego's DJ Taj, who creates a monster fusion of tribal and electro beats for four and half minute of pure raw clubbing ecstasy. Currently zooming up the Billboard Club Play chart, this track is definitely one of the anthems of 2015. Link to Beatport!
So I've taken the plunge and decided to start a blog. Check that, start TWO blogs on two very different themes - stamp collecting and club culture. This is the club music blog. I've been a fan of club music and club culture since the 1980s and today one of my hobbies is being an internet DJ in virtural reality world Uthervese. My background in club culture though goes way back. I was definitely a club kid in the 1990s, and I also worked part-time at the Columbus, OH DJ store Culture 7 Records while attending Ohio State as a graduate student (I have an MA in history and worked on the PhD until academic burnout led me to leave academia in 2002). After Culture 7 Records closed in 2002 I decided to try my hand as a small business owner, creating an online DJ store called Vinyl Euphoria. The store lasted for a bit over five years, but the change from DJ prefence for hard copy to downloads would lead to me closing the store down in late 2007. All the while I worked as a video DJ at the old martini bar Havana here in Columbus, VJing there from 1998 to 2009 and specializing in club music videos.
Since late 2010 I have been an internet DJ in virtual reality world Utherverse, DJing at least once a week at one of the longest-established European-style nightclubs in that world, Excess (and still DJing there today, almost 5 years later!). From mid-2011 to mid-2015 I also DJed for the premier gay club in Utherverse, Boxers. and although I have left Boxers I still support events they have at their venue. Being an interent DJ is a fun experience, and gives me a way to relax and keep my love of club music alive.
I've been a collector of Club Music since the late-1980s, and my collection is huge, with well over 5000 different titles on CD-Maxi, and lots of mp3 downloads for music released since the mid-2000s. I still try my best to keep up with the genres I love, trance and bigroom house (including club remixes of pop tracks, it is simply amazing just how well a mediocre pop track can be turned into a musical gem when provided the right remix by the right remixer). In this blog I will share information on new releases in the bigroom genres, as well as post lots of great -flashback- tracks as I work to reorganize my music collection in wake of moving to a new house this past June. So if you are a fan of club music, be it house or trance, join me in this musical adventure of all things bigroom club related.
